Candace & Amelia | Babywearing Photo Shoot
Babywearing:
Babywearing is the practice of wearing or carrying a baby in a sling or in another form of carrier. Babywearing has been practiced for centuries around the world. It is a great way to be hands-free while still carrying your child and making them feel safe and secure.Babywearing goes waaaaaaaaaay beyond the Bjorn though, my friends…
There are several carriers, wraps, and slings available which all have different features, pros and cons if you will, patterns, textures and more. There are special wraps for a ‘squish’ (newborn), and carriers/wraps that can hold a heavier toddler load. One of the most fun parts of babywearing is choosing the color/pattern of wraps in your stash. I think of a wrap/carrier as just another accessory; like a watch or earrings. I can match my wrap to my mood, or my outfit. They come in several different fabrics from mesh, to linen, to super luxe butter soft silks. Wraps can be budget friendly, DIY, or a huge investment. Most mamas (and papas) who religiously babywear develop a deep sentimental bond with their carriers and the act of babywearing itself. Some parents wear their babies instead of ever using a stroller. For most, babywearing becomes a part of child rearing that you fondly participate in and look back on with joy. These parents are passionate about their wraps, almost as much as they are passionate about their babies. It only makes sense then, for an avid babywearing mama or papa to have some wonderful, professional images with their babies and their wraps/slings. When I was preparing for this shoot, I did a little online research and wasn’t able to find any dramatic, heirloom worthy babywearing images! There were plenty of snapshots and a few professional sessions that threw some babywearing shots into the mix but not a single session that devoted the entire photo shoot to mamas wrapped all up with their babies.
Until now. đŸ˜‰ My muse Candace approached me about the concept, as she is an avid babywearer, and I ran with ideas. I hope you’ll enjoy some of the images we made together below. I know Candace will treasure them. Probably forever.
