Dominoes
Healthy competition grows friendships
A big hurdle in mission work is the language barriers. You can’t understand each other, there isn’t wifi to use GoogleTranslate, and pantomiming only goes so far. Communication is so vital in creating relationships and there are only so many translators to go around. Sure, learning the language is ideal and advised but isn’t always accomplished in time no matter how long you spend on Duolingo.
However, the language of winning and losing is universal! Our team taught some of the community fellas how to play Rook and they then took the time to teach some of us how to play their version of dominoes. Few words were exchanged but everyone understood and friendships were built on a simple game of Cuban train. When you want it bad enough… you find a way.
